UNIQUE FEATURES OF TEXAS HOLDEM POKER
1.Holdem will have a small number of starting hands.
Since many of the initial two-card combinations in poker are equivalent, only 169 unique starting hands exist. Hands such as an ace of clubs, a jack of spades and an ace of hearts and jack of diamonds are the same, and likewise, Suited combinations such as an ace of diamonds and jack of diamonds and an ace of spades and jack of spades are also equivalent hands as all suits are considered equal.
2.Holdem poker is a fixed position game.
The order is which poker players act in a round of betting will be referred to as the position. Your position will not change during a Holdem.
The small blind will always be the first one to act, the big blind will be the second, the poker player to the left of the bigs blind will be next, and so on. In Stud games, the position would change, as the cards will be dealt since the player with the highest exposed cards will be the first one to act. Position would be important in betting.
For all four rounds of betting, your position at the start of a hand of Holdem poker would stay the same, and it would confer either a permanent advantage or disadvantage.
3.In Holdem poker, it would be possible to have the nuts.
The nuts would be the highest possible hand that could be formed with a given set of community cards. For instance, if a poker player were holding a king of spades and a king of clubs, and the board was to have a king of hearts, a ten of diamonds, A seven of spades, a five of clubs and two of hearts, you could bet and raise to the maximum with the knowledge that you could not be beaten. No straights or flushes could be formed from this board, and, without a pair, neither could a full house or four of a kind.
Your three kings would be the nuts.
Let’s say, instead, with the same hand, a king of spades, a king of clubs, the board would have an ace of clubs, an ace of spades, a king of hearts, a seven of hearts and a three of clubs. You could be beaten even though you were to have a much higher hand than in the previous situation (kings full of aces).
If a poker player were holding an ace of hearts and a king of diamonds he would win with aces full, but that would not be the nuts. In this case, the nuts would be an ace of diamonds and an ace of hearts.
4.The winner takes all.
In Holdem poker, the highest-ranking hand would win the pot. Unlike some variations of poker, it would not be a split-pot game. Only if two or more players were to have identical high hands at the showdown would split pots occur in Holdem poker.
