HAND RANKINGS

In order of rank, the recognized five-card combinations are summarized next (the highest ranked hand, which will be the least likely to occur, will be listed first).A sample hand has been shown for each hand ranking to reinforce the concept of pocket cards and community cards.

Pocket cards will be on the left while the complementing community cards will follow each description. You should learn to spot patterns in the structure of hands. The use of community cards will be creating possibilities for hands in Holdem poker that players of seven card stud don’t think about.

For instance, as opposed to Stud, it is likely that two Holdem poker players will have three cards of the same rank. Nevertheless, it is not possible that two Holdem poker players will have flushes in different suits. Discussions over these new possibilities and new limitations are listed.

1.STRAIGHT FLUSH

five cards of the same suit that are in sequential order. The value of the straight flush is determined by the value of the highest card. Therefore a royal flush is the highest ranked hand possible:- An ace, king, queen, jack and a ten (each of the same suit).

2.FOUR OF KIND

four cards of the same rank, an example would be four aces. At least one pair should be appearing on the board for someone to have four of a kind in Texas Holdem poker. For instance: if you were to be dealt two nines, the other two nines should appear on the board so you will have four nines.

On the other hand, if three nines appear on the board and you hold the remaining nine, you will still have four nines. It is possible for two poker players to have four of a kind, if there are two pairs on the board. The rank of the cards forming the hand will determine the rank of the hand (four nines will beat four eights), in this case. All poker players will share four nines if they all appear on the board. One of your pocket cards should be higher than the others pocket cards and higher than the fifth card on the board so as to win the hand in these circumstances. A new concept in Texas Holdem poker is illustrated here the kicker.

The kicker is a pocket card that will be the decider of ties, although it is not part of the combination. All players will have the exact same hand and the pot will be split if the fifth card on the board is higher than anyone’s kicker.

3.FULL HOUSE

A full house will be three of a kind and two of another. This will also be referred to as a boat. At least a pair should appear on the board for someone to have a full house. There will be several card combinations that would allow you to have a full house. One of them will be to have a pair of pocket cards that will match one card on the board and an

Unrelated pair also appears.

A full house will also occur with two unmatched pocket cards when one will match a pair on the board while the other will match one of the other board cards. For instance, if a poker player were to have two fours pocket cards and the board has a pair of tens, a four, a jack and an ace (you would have fours full with tens) You would notice that in this case, you could lose to someone who would be holding a ten and an ace It would be considered that they have tens full of aces. In turn, that person will lose to another poker player who has a pair of jacks, he will be considered as having jacks full of tens.

The person with the highest three of a kind will win if there are multiple poker players who have full houses. Only when players will have the same three of a kind will the pair come into play. Given this board, a person who holds an ace and a ten will beat a poker player holding a ten and a jack.

Each poker player would have tens full, so the pairs would play and the Aces would beat the jacks. A less common way to have a full house is when three of a kind will appear on the board and you would be holding a pair in the pocket. Again, if two or more people are holding a pair in the pocket, the highest pair will win.
